Product Description:

Gabions are defined as double-twisted, hexagonal, woven galvanized steel wire mesh baskets with a rectangular box shape. Gabion baskets come in various sizes and dimensions. Gabions are used in civil engineering, road building, military applications and architectural decorations.

 

Gabion baskets are commonly used for various applications including, but not limited to, retaining walls, steep slopes, rock fall areas to trap sediment, mechanically stabilized soil retaining structures, stream bank protection, slope paving, outfall structures, weirs, drop structures, etc. The purpose of rock gabions is to prevent undercutting and/or scouring at the base of steep slopes. Vegetation may be incorporated into the gabion by placing cuttings between the gabion layers. The cuttings will take root in the gabions and the soil behind the structure. The vegetation provides additional stability once the root structure has developed.

 

The compartments or cells of the Gabion Baskets are of equal size and dimension and are formed by internal diaphragms being placed within the basket. The compartments or cells are filled with natural stone and the diaphragms minimize stone migration within the basket providing even distribution of the stone fill throughout the basket, even after structural movement. Gabion Baskets feature a rigid structure, durable life and greater strength for civil engineering construction, road building, military applications and architectural decorations.

 

The selvedges of the gabion baskets are the thicker perimeter and edge wires to which the wire mesh is secured as to withstand sudden or gradual stress from any direction. Reinforcing wires are the thicker wires incorporated into the netting during fabrication. The internal diaphragms are the internal wire mesh partitions which divide the gabions into cells. Lacing or tie wire is used to assemble and join the gabion units. Connecting wires are the internal wire used to prevent the gabions from bulging. Alternative wire fasteners are ASTM approved wire fasteners used in lieu of lacing.

Woven Wire Gabion Baskets are manufactured from heavy gauge double-twisted hexagonal steel wire mesh. The heavy gauge woven wire provides reinforcement along the edges, while the flexible structure allows them to twist and conform to the changes in the land.

 

GALVANIZED Woven Wire Gabion Basket

Double-twisted hexagonal steel wire mesh which is galvanized zinc coated prior to being double-twisted into mesh. The fasteners and lacing wire also consist of the same zinc coated wire.

PVC COATED Woven Wire Gabion Basket

Double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh made from the same steel galvanized zinc coated wire with an additional Poly Vinyl Coating (PVC). The fasteners are also stainless steel and the lacing wire is the same PVC coating as the mesh.

Welded Wire Gabion Baskets offer the same flexibility as twisted mesh gabions but with greater strength and resistance to corrosion. Their structures are more rigid so that they retain their shape easier even when filled with heavy stones.

 

GALVANIZED Welded Wire Gabion Baskets

Manufactured from galvanized steel wire that is welded into uniform square sections. Wire for fabrication and assembly shall be hot-dipped and galvanized as well.

PVC COATED Welded Wire Gabion Baskets
